Any plans this Valentine’s weekend?  It’s a bit like Marmite, you either love or loath Valentine’s Day (seems the nation's divided) and it’s nothing to do with being single.  Personally, I love it, but then again, I just enjoy celebrations.

Whether you’re surprising someone or reminding your other half how much you care, Valentine’s Day is a great excuse to push the boat out and spoil your other half. I do think if you’re in a relationship you should at least acknowledge the day, if only with a bunch of flowers. But come on now, you can be just the teensiest bit more creative without busting the bank.

So if you’re looking to spoil your loved one but find it all a bit of a minefiled, don’t over think it, keep things simple with a bottle of Bubbly – and preferably make it pink. The supermarkets are awash with offers, but don’t go too gimmicky, keep it simple and classy (Veuve, Bollinger or Dom) and maybe some strawberries (dipped in chocolate if you can find/make them).

Flowers are always a good idea, but please, not red roses and NEVER coronations – EVER! These ruby red tulips from M&S have far more impact, or this stunningly elegant Avalanche & Lisianthus bouquet. But if you’re making the call to a florist (as opposed to purchasing on-line)  tell them your budget, what your other half likes and leave it to them. They’ll choose what’s best on the day and you’ll get a fabulous result.

You can never go wrong with chocolate. There’s a plethora of gift ideas and fun stuff at Hotel Chocolat, but my idea of luxurious hedonism are these elegant pink truffles made with real champagne (presented in a stylish ribbon-tied hatbox).

Staying in? - Then cook a romantic meal and have a cosy date night at home. I know, I know, Jamie Oliver is like everywhere! But there’s no denying his food tube live is fab - and it’s not all about Jamie. So jump on here, find something simple to cook, and relax cosy at home smug in the knowledge you don’t have to endure an over packed restaurant or queue for a cab.  And check this out? -  ‘How to bake a heart inside a cupcake’, (from Crumbs and Doilies Cupcakes).  Can’t decide what I love most, the super cute cupcakes or the delightful little shop in Soho (I want the Maltesers recipe).  Now how much fun would it be making these for your girl?

Okaaaay. You want to know what I’m up to? Well actually - Mr Grey will see me now…….. I’m off to a private screening of Fifty Shades (for charity you understand).  I haven’t read the book so not sure what to expect, but imagine it’ll be a giggle (think I’m missing the point).

But it's all for a good cause.  Pretty n Pink is the only registered Breast Cancer charity in Northern Ireland, and run by a very small team of people -  including a breast cancer survivor and local volunteers from across the province. All the funds raised go directly back to Breast Cancer patients and their families in Northern Ireland.

And for all you single ladies out there, this made me smile.

Enjoy your Valentine's weekend. XO XO
